Gardening Scotland 2014 is fast approaching and we’d like to take some time to thank some of the people who have helped and supported veteran Ray Howie in the run up to the show.
Fiona MacDonald at Glen Art has supported Ray for the last three years and we are grateful that she is helping to support Ray and his team of veterans again in 2014. Ray’s “Lest We Forget” entry will mark the centenary of WWI which started on 4 August 1914. A trench within the garden will show the conditions of trench warfare and highlight awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) suffered by the soldiers, known then as shell shock.
On 20th February Glen Art ran a fund raising event of Afternoon Tea with Major General David Shaw CBE at Glasgow’s Western Club, the event was very well attended and raised £800 to support Ray and his team.
Fiona MacDonald, founder of Glen Art commented “Glen Art are delighted to once again support Ray Howie and his team for their WW1 commemorative show garden entry for Gardening Scotland. With the money raised at our Afternoon Tea we are able able to organise accommodation, catering and transport for the Award Winning veterans, and enable them to raise funds for the essential work of BackOutThere.”
Without the support of Glen Art, which helps to cover the expenses of the BackOutThere veterans, projects like Gardening Scotland 2014 would not be possible!
